Our History
Since 1970, we have been advocating and providing learning support for children, youth, and adults with learning and brain-based differences.

Celebrating Our Roots
Lightwell Learning Society (formerly LDS – Learn. Develop. Succeed. or the Learning Disability Society of Greater Vancouver) was established in 1970 by a group of parents concerned about the lack of educational resources for their children. What began as a small parent-led association has developed into a rapidly growing, expert-led, evidence-informed nonprofit with sustained impact across the region.
Over more than five decades, we have grown in:
- Number of learners served
- Geographic reach
- Program diversity
- Volunteer engagement
- Measurable academic outcomes
- Organizational stability
- Expanded group of committed donors and supporters
